Joining

To join TACTT please fill out the application form.

In order to join these criteria must be met:

Potential members should

  • Be vouched for by an existing member, and/or demonstrate a publicly-visible commitment to trans rights,
  • Be in training or qualified as a therapist/ counsellor/ psychotherapist/ psychologist/ other therapeutic practitioner,
  • Where possible, be a member of a regulatory body that is signed up to the MOU (or another country’s equivalent), and
  • Not practise beyond their competence with gender-expansive clients.
  • Be committed to not providing conversion therapy/‘gender exploratory therapy’ with clients
  • Be able to commit to some level of activist work (personal circumstances allowing). We are primarily an activist group, not a social group. Access to our social and referral spaces is a privilege of being part of our activist community, rather than being primarily about social networks.

No previous experience in activism or campaigning is needed to join. We welcome people of all abilities.

Many of us are trans, non-binary and gender expansive, but this is not a prerequisite; people of any gender (and none) are welcome to join if they agree with our aims.

We welcome people who are learning but also ask members to commit to their own education  – this is not a trans 101 space.

Members are asked to commit to the following:

  • Take care of ourselves and our community when engaged in TACTT efforts.
  • Maintain group confidentiality at all times (this includes both content shared within the group, and the names of members in the group).
  • Engage in tangible action where they have capacity and are sufficiently resourced. Action might involve: letter writing, social media activity, group discussion, protest, resource building and delivery.
  • Be mindful of whose labour is needed when we ask a question or propose an action.
  • Proceed with care when discussing ‘gender critical’ therapists, as this may have legal and safety ramifications for TACTT and its members.
  • Do not practise any form of conversion therapy and do not work beyond their competence regarding gender expansive clients.
  • Agree to the Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Commit to listening and sharing ideas.
  • Advocate and make links to other networks that share our ethos.
  • Commit to their own ongoing learning around issues affecting gender expansive people, so they can take action effectively within TACTT and minimise potential harm to transgender and gender expansive folk.
  • Do not tolerate any of the harms we are trying to protect against, such as: hate speech, transphobia, classism, and racism. Putting our ethos into action translates to how we treat members within the group.
  • Do not assume to know a person’s identity (gender, sexuality, race, class, disability, etc.). As such, we encourage members to share their pronouns and ask about other member’s pronouns if they are unsure how to refer to someone.

If it comes to our attention at any point during your time as a member that you’re using information gained from TACTT to act against us, or for example, we become aware that you’re being actively transphobic or advocating for conversion therapy, we reserve the right to remove you as a member. This is not to say that we expect all people to be perfect all of the time – mistakes happen and as administrators of the list we are as fallible as any member. We have the safety of the overall group to consider and will always act in accordance with that. Where possible we will make contact with you first, to discuss the situation.
